History of Eastfield Park & Surrounding Area

The following pages are devoted to the history and heritage of Eastfield Park and the surrounding areas.

Much of what is written is based on the researches of Bernard Kelly, a very active member and current Vice-Chair of Friends of Eastfield Park, with additional material supplied by Vic Smith, the current FoEP Chair. As time goes by, we hope to increase the amount of information included on the site and also to provide further links to additional sources of information.

In some instances we have been deliberately vague about historical events because we want to check some of the factual detail before we publish it here. In the past a certain amount of misinformation has been published about the park and we do not wish to repeat those mistakes here. There are also various 'urban myths' about the park and, if we do include them on the site, we want to ensure that they are given their correct status.

If anybody discovers errors anywhere on the site please let us know about them through the ‘contact us’ page. Similarly, if you can provide additional information, please contact us. We want to collect all the information we can about the park. It would help if your information is backed up with written records or other documentation, but do not worry if it isn’t.

At present there are two main pages describing the history of the park:

Links to other pages and external sites with additional information are gradually being added to these pages: green text - links to internal pages; blue text links to external websites.
